Severe Drop in Temperature! Snowstorms and Heavy Rains Are Coming!
In recent days, regions including southern Chongqing, Hubei, Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangxi have experienced heavy rainfall, with some areas seeing torrential downpours. The Central Meteorological Observatory forecasts that in the coming days, the rainfall in these areas will intensify, as it combines with a cold front from the north moving southward. A new, stronger cold front is currently forming and is expected to affect most parts of China in the coming days.
A Strong Cold Front Will Sweep Across China Starting Today
The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that a strong cold front will impact China over the next five days, bringing strong winds and a significant drop in temperatures. Today (15th), the cold front will primarily affect areas such as Xinjiang, western Inner Mongolia, and western Gansu. From tomorrow (16th) to the 19th, the cold front will begin affecting most parts of China from the eastern regions of the northwest. Some areas in central and western Inner Mongolia, northern North China, southern Northeast China, as well as Hunan and Guizhou will see temperature drops of over 10°C.
This cold front will also bring more rain and snow. Starting today, northern North China, many parts of Northeast China, and areas from Yunnan and Guizhou to Chongqing, Henan, Anhui, and Jiangsu will experience precipitation. In northern regions, rain will turn into snow. From the 16th to the 19th, areas such as southern Gansu, western Sichuan Plateau, eastern Inner Mongolia, western Jilin, and southern Heilongjiang will experience moderate to heavy snow or sleet, with some regions seeing blizzards.
A New Strong Cold Front Is Coming
The new cold front will have a widespread impact, with temperature drops of 4 to 8°C in most areas. From the 16th to the 19th, the cold front will move from west to east and from north to south, affecting most parts of central and eastern China. The most noticeable temperature drops will occur in northern North China and southern Northeast China, with temperature reductions of over 10°C. Cities like Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, and Hohhot will likely experience the lowest temperatures of the season so far, with the lowest temperatures dipping below freezing.
For the southern regions, before the cold front arrives, temperatures will rise between the 15th and 17th, and areas like Guangdong and Hunan may experience brief high temperatures. Between the 18th and 19th, temperatures in many parts of the eastern southwest and central and lower Yangtze River region will drop to around 20°C, leading to noticeably cooler weather.
Experts remind the public that this cold air process will last for a long time and have a broad impact. The 0°C isotherm will move southward to areas like Hebei and Shanxi, while the 10°C isotherm will shift to regions like Jiangsu and Anhui. It is advised to monitor temperature changes closely and dress warmly to avoid catching a cold.
