💬 The Normal Way — 2 Minutes Only

When you send a photo directly from your camera or album (using the 📷 icon), WeChat treats it as an image message.

You can only recall it within 2 minutes.

After that, it stays in the chat, and the only thing you can do is hope the other person doesn’t save it.

💡 The Smart Way — 3 Hours Recall Time

Here’s the trick:

WeChat gives a 3-hour recall window for files — not just documents, but any file type.

So, if you send a photo as a file, you get more control and extra time to undo mistakes.

🧭 How To Send a Photo as a File

1. Open your chat with the person you want to message.

2. Tap the “+” icon at the bottom of the screen.

3. Swipe left and select “File” (文件).

4. Choose “From phone” → “Album” (手机相册).

5. Select the photo(s) you want to send and hit Send.

That’s it!

Now, the image will appear in the chat as a file, not a regular photo preview.

The recipient will have to tap it to open it.

You can recall the photo within 3 hours, not just 2 minutes.

The same rule applies to MP3s, PDFs, ZIP files, and other documents.

If the recipient downloads or saves the file before you recall it, it may still stay on their device.
