Come and Arrest Me! Man Challenges Hefei Police

What’s it like to experience “asking for trouble”? Recently, the Hefei Police Traffic Management Division came across an unusual incident. A driver posted a video of himself committing traffic violations online and provocatively dared the authorities to catch him. In response, Hefei police quickly traced his information and apprehended him.

Incident Overview:

The police discovered that a driver had uploaded a video to a social media platform showing himself riding an unlicensed motorcycle on the road. Not only was the motorcycle without a number plate, but the driver was also caught engaging in dangerous driving behaviors, such as "head-bobbing" (a dangerous maneuver) and running red lights. Even more provocatively, in the video’s comment section, the driver challenged the police by writing, "Come and catch me!"

Upon receiving the tip-off, Hefei Traffic Police immediately coordinated with relevant departments and identified the person in question. The offender, named Ye (a 20-year-old male from Lu'an, Anhui), was found to have been riding an unlicensed electric motorcycle along a busy road in Hefei (around the intersection of Huibei Road and Shanghai Road) between 17:00 and 19:00 on September 7. During the ride, he committed multiple violations, including running red lights and engaging in dangerous stunts that posed a serious risk to both pedestrians and other vehicles. He then posted the video online, mocking the authorities.

Police Response:

On the afternoon of September 23, police tracked down Ye at his residence and seized the vehicle. Confronted with the evidence, Ye confessed to his actions without hesitation.

Legal Consequences:

Hefei traffic police have fined Ye 600 RMB and added 18 penalty points to his driving record. Additionally, investigations into other potential violations are ongoing. The authorities are considering other charges he may face.

Hefei’s Efforts Against Traffic Violations:

Recently, the Hefei Police Traffic Management Division has been actively working to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations by introducing a multi-faceted "five-dimensional linkage" system. This includes methods for tracking and addressing dangerous behaviors, such as illegal street racing and disruptive driving. They are also collaborating with other agencies to enhance law enforcement efforts and improve road safety for citizens.

This incident serves as a reminder that challenging the authorities online may not always have the outcome one expects. The traffic police in Hefei responded swiftly, ensuring that justice was served.
